To mark the Teachers’ Day celebrations, the government is set to hold an interaction between the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and school students. Based on the event held last year, the meet will be held at Maneckshaw Centre, but on the 4th September, since Teachers’ Day and Janmashtami coincide on September 5th this year.

Last year, Mr. Modi’s address was broadcast live to virtually all school students in the country. The event did run into its’ fair share of controversy as well, since the Human Resource Development Ministry had issued a written directive to arrange all schools to make arrangements for viewing the event and speech. It also clearly stated that it would keep a count of whether the school did or did not follow the directive, just stopping short of making it mandatory. This year as well, similar plans of ensuring that the Prime Minister’s message reaches out to maximum school students, arrangements are under way to beam his address live across the country on a wide array of devices, and the schools have been asked to prepare for the same.
In 2014, Modi talked to school students about the dwindling respect for and value for teacher, and emphasised that the young people in India can grow up to fill the great demand for quality teachers all over the world. He talked about of being service to the country, not by doing grand things, but by doing little things of value. Talking about various things like toilet facilities, the importance of educating the girl child and building a nation, Mr. Modi’s speech sure did work like a charm, and the same is expected to repeat itself this year as well.
