Rekha V. Rajan, Professor at the Centre for German Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University says, “A career in foreign languages is becoming an attractive proposition. More and more avenues are opening up in tourism and call centers. Whether it is the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) or publishing houses, they are all making a beeline for foreign language experts.’’

Nowadays, gaining a degree in foreign language is considered as a full-fledged career option. Other than Spanish, German & French, languages like Chinese, Korean and Japanese are also available with great career prospects for the students.

“More students are making a beeline for Japanese than any language.’’ says Prof. Sushma Jain of the School of Languages, Jawaharlal Nehru University.

In contradiction with the market demand for foreign language experts, the supply is very scanty. Our country has a large number of experts in the English language, but it faces the severe shortage of people who know French, German, Chinese or any other foreign language.

As per the present trend, it is evident that professionals with a foreign language learning degree are in dire need. Students are available with ample of lucrative options in both domestic and global market.

When it comes to learning, everyone is desirous of joining the best college to have maximum educational benefits.

  • School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University

School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies, Best Foreign Language Institute In Delhi

The School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (SLL&CS) has been a major center in India as well as abroad for learning Indian, Asian and European languages since its inception in 1969.

It is the only school in the country that offers a B.A. program in the Korean language.

Eligibility: The minimum eligibility for a B.A. program in a foreign language is 10+2 or equivalent. Whereas for the Proficiency courses, one need to qualify the relevant written examination.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Jawaharlal Nehru Academy of Languages is one of the oldest institutions in the Capital offering intensive courses in foreign languages.

French, German, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Chinese, Portuguese are amongst some of the languages provided by this institute.

Eligibility: Those who have passed 10+2 or equivalent are eligible to apply for these courses. The admission is done on the first-come-first-serve basis.

The Department of Germanic and Romance Studies, the Department of Slavonic and Finno-Ugrian Studies, St. Stephens College, Ramjas College, Khalsa College, Miranda House, Daulat Ram College, College of Vocational Studies, Sri Venkateswara College, Hindu College, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Zakir Hussain College are amongst the major colleges in Delhi University, providing course in foreign languages.

Eligibility: One needs, to begin with, the Certificate course to learn any language, for which the minimum eligibility is 10+2 or equivalent.

  • Max Mueller Bhavan

The Goethe-Institut, New Delhi also known as Max Mueller Bhavan is the best-known center in the city for German courses.  In addition to general language courses covering all levels for adults and teens, it also includes a broad range of special courses as well as company courses.

Though several colleges and institutions are available offering foreign language courses, pursuing the courses from a renowned institution will provide an edge over others.
