The University of Delhi initially began with 3 colleges and 750 students and now is recognized to be one of the largest University offering higher education in India. DU is renowned for its high standards in research and teaching. Originated with three students at the postgraduate level, Delhi University started functioning on 3rd September 1944.
Various postgraduate programs are being offered by DU like B.Ed., M.Ed., LLB, LLM, MBA, M.Com, M.A., MCA, M.Tech, M.Sc., etc. in varied fields. Delhi University invites online applications for the applicants looking for admissions to 66 postgraduate programs for the academic year 2016-17.
In order to get admission in these postgraduate programs, you have to go through the Delhi University entrance examinations.
Delhi University is conducting entrance examinations in cities other than Delhi for its postgraduate programs, is likely to do the same for M.Phil. as well as Ph.D. courses to simplify the procedure for the students residing outside of Delhi.
All the information about the Delhi University Postgraduation (PG) Admissions 2016-17, its entrance examinations, admit cards, exams dates, and results are given below.
Online Registration for PG programs has already started and the last date for submitting applications is 24th May 2016.
DU PG Admissions 2016-17
Delhi University has invited Online Applications for registrations to all seats available for PG admissions for the academic year 2016-17. Online registrations are being held for the PG admissions for easy access to the students from across the world. This year, DU has made provisions to conduct entrance examinations based on Multiple Choice Questions. There are six centers for the entrance examinations across the country viz. Jammu, Nagpur, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Varanasi.
Students looking for admission in the Postgraduate programs will be able to access all the requisite documents and their details like admit cards, entrance results, locations for entrances, venue of the GDs and PIs (if any) via the website.
Important Dates for the PG Admissions 2016-17

The registration process for the PG admissions began on 28th April 2016 and will continue till the midnight of 24thMay 2016.
DU Application Form
The students who are seeking admissions in the Delhi University are required to submit a DU Application form. You can apply for the DU Admission 2016 in both the online as well as the offline mode. Application procedure will begin from 1st April 2016.
Application Fees
The Application fees for the DU Admission form is:
- For the General candidates/OBC – Rs.500 for each program
- For the SC/ST/PwD – Rs.250 for each program
The registration fee is non-refundable and shall also be received online.
To have the exact dates of the entrance examination of individual programs, visit the PG admission portal during the 2nd week of the May 2016.
Instructions to fill the Application Form
- Click on the application form link.
- Go to the Signup link.
- Read all the instruction carefully.
- Enter your email id and password to create your account.
- Fill in the required information such as your full name, date of birth, category, nationality, guardian’s name, gender, college/university.
- Select the course you want to apply from the drop-down menu.
- When you complete the verification process, you will then receive an email on the registered ID along with a confirmation link.
- Go to the confirmation link.
- Login to the DU PG Portal 2016.
- Upload the requisite documents like your photograph, signature, identity proof, 10th certificate, etc.
- Once you declare that all the statement uploaded are true from belief, the entire form will appear. There will be 3 options available at the bottom of the page viz. ‘Click to Modify Application’, ‘Pay Fees’, ‘My Home.’
- Save/Submit your application and pay the mentioned application fees.
Your application submission process shall be completed only after the payment of the Online Registration Fees. You can then click on ‘Print Form’ button to view your submitted form along with the form number and QR code.
Eligibility Criteria
The minimum eligibility criteria for admissions in Delhi University are as follows:
- The applicant should have graduated in any stream from a recognized college/university.
- As per the Ordinance 1 of the University, there is no age bar for applying to the postgraduate courses.
Exceptions – There are some courses where their respective regulatory bodies viz. Medical Council of India (MCI), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) etc. have prescribed the minimum age requirements in their regulations.
- If you’re seeking admission in any of the PG programs of the Delhi University, you should have completed the undergraduate program in related discipline from a recognized college/university. For instance, if you want to study Bachelor of Science, you must have cleared your 10+2 with either PCB or PCM. Or if you’re seeking admissions in the M.Com. program then you must have your graduation or its equivalent examination cleared with B.Com.
Mode of Admissions
There are two modes of admissions for the postgraduate programs. These modes apply to all the Departments/Faculties, except for the colleges providing professional and inter-disciplinary courses. These modes are:
- Merit or Direct Admissions – This mode is applicable for the students who have already been a part of the Delhi University. Almost 50% of the total seats are reserved for the candidates studying in the Delhi University, on the basis of merit. This mode does not apply for the students coming from other Universities.
- Entrances – The remaining 50% of the seats are to be filled by the entrance examinations, as well as by the personal interviews or group discussions (if any).
It should be noted that the students applying for the postgraduate admission in Delhi University have to register online, irrespective of the mode they choose.
There are three options by which the students can decide to apply for the two modes mentioned above:
- Entrance only
- Merit only
- Entrance + Merit
Entrance Examinations 2016
The permission to appear for the entrance examination depends on the eligibility criteria that the candidate should fulfill. In case a student does not fulfill the prescribed requirements for applying to a concerned course but appears in the entrance examination, it should be done at the candidate’s personal cost and risk. Later, if it is found out that the candidate is not fulfilling all the eligibility requirements, his/her admission (if granted) shall be canceled.
Exams Centers
The entrance examinations are to be held in Bengaluru, Jammu, Delhi, Kolkata, Nagpur, and Varanasi.
The candidates are allowed to choose any one of these cities for appearing in the entrance examination via online registration.
Please note – Once you complete the online registration, the chosen city will not be changed. The University has the right to change/cancel any center of the entrance examination without any prior reason.
Admit Cards
DU Admit Cards 2016 for the entrance examinations shall be issued to the students via emails. The download link for the admit card will be made available after 24th May 2016 on the official website. The students should regularly check for more information, news and updates on the DU PG Admission Portal.
The admit card includes all the information related to the center, reporting time, duration of the exam, roll number, etc. Therefore, the students are suggested to have a good quality print out of their Admit Card, for verification purposes.
You are required to carry the following documents to the examination center:
- Printed copy of the Admit Card.
- Identity Card having the student’s photograph, for verification purposes.
- Aadhar Card, Driving License, PAN Card (whichever is available).
Examination
The entrance examination will be of two hours. It will include the Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) excluding some of the foreign languages programs like Persian which might have short answer questions. The syllabus of the postgraduate programs is proportionate to the B.Com/B.A. /B.Sc. or any other equivalent syllabus of the Delhi University and is also given on the respective Department’s official website. The answers in the entrance exams are to be marked on the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheet.
Results
The results of these entrance examinations will be released on the official DU website. Delhi University Results 2016 are expected to be announced in the month of May/June 2016. However, we will provide you with the exact date for the declaration of the results as soon as they are announced.
Counselling Process
The shortlisted students will be called for further counseling procedure. Students will be shortlisted on the basis of the merit list. It is advisable for you to keep all the necessary documents like admission fee, original documents of class 10th and 12th, rank card, admit card, physical fitness documents ready before you go in for the counseling procedure.
