Singapore is renowned for its national vestment in education as it provides the international students with a broad array of high quality courses and programs. Additionally, the immigration requirements to study in Singapore are astonishingly straightforward, even if a student do need a visa to enter the country. Once a student receives the offer letter from the desired institute or university for a specific program that they have been looking for, the students are then required to apply for the student visa to enter Singapore. The Institutes/Universities in Singapore will then file a Singapore student visa for Indian applications on behalf of the students to Singapore immigration and check point Authority (ICA). The fees of the visa application may vary from institutes to institutes. It takes a couple of weeks to get the Singapore student visa passes.
For higher studies in Singapore, a student will require a Student’s Pass. There is availability for both the visa as well as a Student’s Pass for the applicants. Student’s Pass are issued exactly in the same procedure as that of a visa application. The only difference is that if an applicant requires a visa, they have to complete the Student’s Pass application from their home country while for those who do not need a visa to enter Singapore may apply for a Student’s Pass once they are already in the country. Students coming from some other nationalities will require a visa to enter Singapore. They may apply for a visa using the Student’s Pass Online Application & Registration (SOLAR+) online system after their host institution has registered them with it. If the visa application is successful, the applicants will be issued a new SOLAR+ application number that they can use to apply for a Student Pass from their domestic country. They will have to pay an additional visa fee when they collect their Student’s Pass from the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) in Singapore.
According to the Singapore student visa rules, a candidate has to exhibit a current evidence of their funds which must be, at the earliest, one day old from the date of visa application. If the funds are as fixed deposit then, the bank must issue a letter guaranteeing the availability of the same. This bank letter must be dated less than 30 days from the date of visa application.
The Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoint Authority takes a (Singapore Dollar Rates) SGD30 (US$ 24). It is a Non-Refundable fee paid for every application submitted to them. This fee is payable by credit card or internet banking. There is an insurance fee for a Student’s Pass, which is SGD 60 (US$ 47), and the students requiring a visa are required to pay a further SGD 30 visa fee also. In both cases, the fees are payable to the ICA where students go individually to collect their student pass.
Following documents are required from every applicant who requires a Singapore student pass.
All foreign students accepted into a full-time study programme in a Singapore Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) must apply for a Student Pass online through the SOLAR+ system. Once you complete the forms in the online application system, your host institution will lodge your application to the ICA for you. If your application is successful, you’ll need to complete the formality of going to an ICA office and collecting your Student Pass yourself. Institutions not included on this list will provide you with specific information about your immigration requirements when you are accepted into one of their study programmes.
The Student’s Pass applications are submitted via the SOLAR+ at least one month before the commencement of the study program, but not more than two months. Before the application is submitted with SOLAR+, the candidate's IHL will register them with the system using their personal details as they appear in their passport, program details (inclusive of the dates of commencement), and the SOLAR+ application reference number. The host will notify the applicants once this is finished, and then the students must log on to SOLAR+ to fill out the eForm 16.
Before the applicant log on to SOLAR+ to complete the eForm 16, they will need to have the following documents and information:
Once the form is finished online through SOLAR+, the candidate is required to print a copy of it as well as submit it personally to the Student’s Pass Unit (ICA). They are also required to paste a passport-sized photo of themselves onto the top right-hand corner of the form before they do so. The visa application processing time for applicants that do NOT require a visa to enter Singapore is five days. For students that do require a visa, the processing time is ten days.
their domestic institution. If a visa is required to enter Singapore, it will be attached to this letter. The IPA letter will act as a provisional Student’s Pass until they go to collect it from an ICA office, and if applicable they can also use it to enter the country.
