NEST 2017: Notification, Exam Date, Exam Pattern & Application Form 


National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) 2017 is conducted by  NISER (National Institute of Science Education & Research), Bhubaneshwar and University of Mumbai – Department of Atomic Energy Center for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM – DAE CBS), Mumbai. It is conducted for admission to intergerated M.Sc. programme offered by NISER and UM – DAE CBS.

NEST 2017 Eligibility:

Eligibility conditions for NEST 2017 are as under:

Candidates must fulfill all of the conditions mentioned-below to be eligible to appear in the exam:

  • Candidates should be born on or after August 01, 1997. The age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ ST/ Physically Disabled (PD) candidates.

  • They must have qualified 10+2 in either 2015 or 2016. Candidates appearing n the exam in 2017 are also eligible. (Where only Letter Grade is given by the Board, a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks will be required. In the absence of such a certificate the decision of the respective Admission Committees will be final).

  • The candidate should have scored at least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any recognized Board in India.(for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Persons with Disability (PD), the minimum percentage requirement is 55).

NEST 2017 Application Fee:

The application fee for NEST 2017, for different categories, is mentioned as under:

Candidates are required to make payment using any Credit/Debit card or through Net banking without visiting any bank. Online payment is possible through TechProcess / SBIe-Pay payments gateways.

NEST 2017 Exam Pattern:

The question paper for NEST 2017 will be objective type. It will be divided into 5 sections. The language of the question paper will be English only.

  • Section 1 will contain general questions of 30 marks. There will be no negative marking in this section.

  • Section 2 will be subject based. It will be of 50 marks. It will contain questions from Biology, Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry. There will be negative marking for each wrong answer. For some questions, there will be  more than one correct answer. In that case, marks will be alloted only if all correct answers are marked. 

Note: Candidates can attempt as many subject-based sections (in section 2) as they like. However, marks will be calculated on the basis of section 1 and the best three subject sections.

NEST 2017 Reservation of Seats:

For the integrated M.Sc. programme 2017–22, the total number of seats at NISER and CEBS are 170+2(JK) and 45+2(JK), respectively. However, following percentage of seats are reserved for different categories.

  • For Other Backward Classes belonging to the Non–Creamy Layer (OBC–NCL) 27% of seats are reserved.

  • 15% of the seats are reserved for SC and 7.5% seats for are reserved for ST categories. 

  • For Person with Disabilities (PD) 3% of the seats are reserved in every category, i.e., General, OBC–NCL, SC and ST.

  • Two seats in each institution, i.e., NISER and CEBS,  are reserved for candidates from the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

NEST 2017 Result:

On the basis of candidates’ performance at NEST 2017, a common merit list will be prepared and hosted on the official website of NEST 2017, most likely on June 16, 2017. The qualifying candidates will have to participate in admission counseling.

NEST 2017 Admit Card:

Admit Card for NEST 2017 can be downloaded from the official website on or after the given date, i.e., April 14, 2017.

NEST 2017 Seats Availability:

The seats intake capacity at both the colleges is as under:

NISER – 170+2 (for J&K)
CBS – 45+2 (for J&K)

NEST 2017 Test Centers:

NEST 2017 will be conducted in 60 centers (including major cities and towns) across the country. It is allowed to select two centres from the same city, such as Delhi–East and Delhi–North.
